Medical Laboratory Program
The Medical Laboratory Program prepares students to work in all areas of the laboratory and is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. An Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Medical Laboratory Technician Degree and a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) Degree in Medical Laboratory Science are available. Students seeking the BAS degree must complete a program of study in medical laboratory technology (or equivalent) prior to admission.
Students seeking our AAS degree are assigned to local laboratories to obtain clinical experience and, upon graduation, can take a national certification exam to become eligible for Nevada licensure as medical laboratory technicians. Medical laboratory technicians work in all areas of the laboratory under the supervision of a medical laboratory scientist. They hunt for clues to the absence, presence, extent and causes of disease.
Student pursuing the BAS degree study advanced techniques and evaluation methods for all areas of the laboratory including hematology, chemistry, blood bank, immunology, microbiology and urinalysis. They will also be assigned to local laboratories to obtain clinical experience and, upon graduation, can take a national certification exam to become eligible for Nevada licensure as medical technologists.
Medical technologists perform and interpret diagnostic laboratory procedures using state-of-the-art instrumentation to aid in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease. They also monitor the standards of accuracy and precision in the performance of tests, analyze and correct instrument problems and may be responsible for personnel management within the laboratory.
A Skills Certificate in Phlebotomy is available. An application is required. This is not a limited entry program. A health programs orientation, meeting with an advisor, or attending a limited entry workshop is not required. Email Us for more information and review the career guide and application below:
