Professional Advancement Committee


The Professional Advancement Committee:

  • Is a standing committee of the Faculty Senate
  • Reviews all applications for grade advancement on the academic salary schedule
  • Applies the Professional Advancement Program as outlined in the NSHE Board of Regent's Handbook and the Procedures and Guidelines Manual
    • NSHE Board of Regents Handbook Title 4, Chapter 3, Section 38
    • NSHE Board of Regents Procedures and Guidelines Manual, Chapter 3, Section 3


The Professional Advancement Program:

  • Is the mechanism by which an academic faculty member can advance to a higher level of compensation
    • faculty holding a .50 FTE or above who are on the academic faculty salary schedule and are tenure track and tenured
  • Advancement can occur following completion of
    • an advanced degree program
    • graduate level coursework
    • occupationally related coursework
    • combination

Important Dates:

  • Occupationally related course work must be submitted within one year of the date of completion
  • Completion of a degree or course work occurring in June, July, or early August may render the faculty member eligible for salary advancement on July 1--the applicant must notify the committee no later than April 15 to allow the advancement to be finalized by Human Resources in time for the new contract--contact HR for their final deadline to submit official transcripts after degree completion
  • Submit your application prior to beginning a degree program or credit courses. Occupationally related coursework may be submitted after (but no more than one year after)
